Exam Stem
You are asked to review a 76-year-old man for planned abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair on your list in seven days time. His aneurysm extends above the renal arteries. 

He has a background of hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus and a transient ischaemic attack (TIA). 

He has a body mass index of 32 kg/m2 and has a 24 pack-year history of smoking. 

He is a Jehovah’s Witness.

His medications include 
clopidogrel 75mg daily 
rosuvastatin 10mg daily 
perindopril 4mg mane 
metoprolol 25mg bd 
metformin 1000mg bd 

What is his risk of renal impairment perioperatively?

What criteria can be used to define acute kidney injury?
